City Receives Cycle Oregon Community Grant

Cycle Oregon's community grants program helps provide important support for communities. The City of Bandon applied for and was recently granted $3,500 from Cycle Oregon to install four new bike racks, to be placed at high-use areas around town. For a city of over 3,000, we have only 15 bike racks, many of which are in a state of deterioration due to our climate. This project will help replace some of our poor quality bike racks and/or install new racks in desirable locations. Proposed sites include: (1) at City bathroom/parking lot east end of town (Face Rock Creamery), (2) the south Jetty, (3) City Park playground, (4) near post office, banking district, and grocery store.

We hope that the addition of new high-quality bike racks will show the community that we value our bicyle-friendly cutlure and support vocal locals who desire additional resources. Outcomes of this project might include: (1) cyclists on the Oregon Coast Bike Route stop more frequently in Bandon, (2) cyclists feel safe and comfortable taking trips and parking their bike when visiting common local destinations, (3) encouragement of all travel modes.

City Staff will post pictures on the website and Facebook page as these racks are being installed. Please let us know if there are other locations in need of a bike rack around town so that we can continue to plan for improvement and expansion of our bicycle friendly system!
