Bandon Proposed Budget Available Online

Bandon, OR – The City of Bandon’s proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2015/16 is now available online at www.cityofbandon.org/documents.

Monday evening City staff presented the proposed budget document to the City’s Budget Committee, comprised of Mayor Mary Schamehorn, the Bandon City Council, and seven citizen volunteers. The proposed budget calls for continuing focus on infrastructure maintenance. The budget also calls for a pass-through increase in electric power rates, based on an increase in City expenses to purchase power from the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA). The BPA plans to implement a 7.6 percent rate increase in October, 2015, and this will be reflected in customers’ electric bills.

The proposed budget includes staff’s recommendation to continue current projects like moving the City shop from the Woolen Mill area to a space outside the flood plain. It also sets aside $2,000 for BandonPrepares, a non-profit whose mission is to help Bandon area residents prepare for natural disaster.

The proposed budget totals $21,130,946 including all funds. This is a ten percent reduction from the current Fiscal Year. The General Fund is $2,239,697, and the water, wastewater and electric utilities total $9,667,772, or 46 percent of the total budget.

The Budget Committee next meets on Monday, April 20, at 7 p.m. at Bandon City Hall to continue discussing the proposal.
