Arbor Day April 25 – Volunteers Needed

Bandon, OR – Bandon Mayor Mary Schamehorn has proclaimed Saturday, April 25 to be Arbor Day in the City of Bandon (http://www.cityofbandon.org/sites/default/files/fileattachments/general/...), and the City now seeks volunteers to help remove ivy from trees in the Woolen Mill area.

The event will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. April 25. People who want to help should meet at the corner of Fillmore Avenue and 5th St. at 10:00 a.m. Gloves and garbage bags will be provided. Volunteers will clean up the area generally, and ensure the health of the trees by removing ivy. It’s a great opportunity to serve, and to view one of Bandon’s many unique vistas.

Bandon has been a Tree City USA for six years. Communities achieve Tree City USA status by meeting four core standards of sound urban forestry management: maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and celebrating Arbor Day. Participating communities have demonstrated a commitment to caring for and managing their public trees.

The City of Bandon’s Tree Standards and Specifications Manual is available online here: http://www.cityofbandon.org/sites/default/files/fileattachments/general/....
