DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES AND SERVICE LEVEL DESCRIPTION:

The mission of the Bandon Police Department is to deliver the highest standard of law enforcement excellence in protecting life, property and human rights, and to work in a pro-active partnership with the community to solve problems, thereby enhancing the quality of life for our citizens.  The Bandon Police Department is proud to have an officer on duty twenty-four hours a day .

The Bandon Police Department is committed to criminal investigations and apprehension of offender, selective traffic enforcement, timely response to calls for service, investigation of accidents and the traditional duties of police in the community. In addition, the Department has a commitment to pro-active patrol, vehicle, foot, and in the future, bicycle to enhance positive interaction with citizens, merchants and visitors. We also continue to work with various departments, agencies and citizens in problem solving to improve the quality of life as well as the quality of service for our customers; continued community education efforts, and identification of alternate resources.

Due to budgetary restrictions, our department does not currently have a patch trading program and we are unable to give out patches.

Funding:

The Police Department is operated primarily out of the General Fund. Revenues are mainly derived through property taxes, utility taxes, transient occupancy taxes, and utility in-lieu taxes.

The Bandon Police Department is responsible for:

  • Protecting the safety and welfare of the Citizens of Bandon thus enhancing their lives.
  • Training which benefits the officers and citizens.
  • Keeping the City Manager apprised of circumstances of which the city council should be advised. 
  • Conforming with Local, State and Federal Laws.
  • Training and working with Bandon Support Service Members and Bandon Reserve Officers.
  • Preparing budget requests.
  • Assisting the school whenever possible.
  • Assisting the Ordinance Enforcement Officer.
  • Keeping communications open between other regional departments as well as the citizens of Bandon.
  • Being part of the Emergency Response Team in the event of a natural disaster.

Bandon Reserve Officers:

  • Bandon has three volunteer reserve officers.
  • Reserve Officers and Patrol Officers are accountable to the Police Chief. 
  • Reserve Officers are not required to have attended the Police Academy, however, they attend a regional training academy at Southwestern Community College.

Bandon Support Services: 

  • Approximately  9 volunteers patrol the streets each night, 365 day's a year, assisting the police department and doing whatever they are requested to help the police and the community.  They are primarily funded out of public donations.
